Description

The DAMA Technopole (www.damatecnopolo.it/en) – located in vibrant city of Bologna - is the international digital hub of the Emilia-Romagna Data Valley hosting top world supercomputers and data centres and many other actors. Strategically positioned in one of the most advanced innovation ecosystems in Europe, this is a brownfield redevelopment of the former Manifattura Tabacchi, transforming a historic industrial site into a global technological hub. Inside the area of the Technopole – with an overall surface of about 140,000 m2 - the Region planned the construction of a new building called la Torre (the Tower), which will have a total surface of 15,000 m², distributed on 11 floors. This building will be located on the side of Via Stalingrado and aims to be home of top innovative organizations hosting offices, R&D laboratories, and innovation hubs. The Technopole is integrated in the “Bologna, City of Knowledge” a sustainable urban regeneration project encompassing the TEK District.

Strengths

The “Tecnopolo Manifattura - Data Valley Hub” in Bologna is an international digital hub for big data hosting:
- the pre-exascale HPC supercomputer LEONARDO, managed by CINECA;
- the ECMWF data centre;
- the new INFN Tier-1 data centre.

Other actors of international level will be located within the Technopole: the Competence Center Industry 4.0 BI-REX, the Rizzoli Institute of Bologna, and many others. Moreover, the Hub boasts a partnership with CMCC and Italiameteo, and strong connections with the local universities and LEPIDA, the broadband network of the regional public administrations, and with different innovative companies.
